Mahathir’s shock and awe: Shafie Apdal as PM9

But what is even more important is that Mahathir gets to choose the next prime minister and this prime minister will be Mahathir’s proxy and he will do whatever Mahathir asks him to do, not like the three prime ministers before that, who Mahathir could not control.

NO HOLDS BARRED

A couple of Umno leaders want parliament to be dissolved to make way for the 15th general election or GE15 so that the people can decide who they want as the government. Other Umno leaders say it should be left to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to decide whether parliament should or should not be dissolved.

PAS has proposed a vote of confidence for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to be tabled at the coming sitting of parliament in July. Thus far, Umno and PPBM have not indicated whether they support this vote of confidence. It is also not known yet whether the Speaker will allow the proposal to be tabled.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has proposed Sabah Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal as the candidate for the post of prime minister or PM9. Mahathir said he will campaign for Shafie and will explain to the people why he wants the Sabah Chief Minister as the new prime minister.

Mahathir added that Pakatan Plus will never win the next general election with Anwar Ibrahim as their candidate for prime minister because he has too many enemies. Hence Shafie would be the best candidate to ensure a Pakatan Plus win.

Meanwhile, all over the world, businesses are collapsing and hundreds of millions are unemployed. Countries that were once economic powers are facing bankruptcy and the six months of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic is ravaging the entire world and it may take decades for some countries to recover.

Malaysia is expected to experience its worst economic crisis in history and millions may suffer from the aftermath of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. Pakatan Plus has no idea how to manage this huge economic disaster looming over the horizon but they want to take over the country anyway because this power-struggle has nothing to do with the people but is about personal gain and the lust for power.

Anwar Ibrahim and PKR are still trying to sell their 22-year old “Agenda Reformasi” or “Reform Agenda” but no one is buying. Malaysians now realise that all that talk about Reformasi was hollow and merely meant to fool the voters into believing that Anwar and PKR are agents of change.

DAP’s slogan regarding good governance, transparency and accountability have proven to be as fake as Anwar’s and PKR’s “Reform Agenda”. In the 22 months that DAP was in power, they were corrupt, they abused their power, and they lied to Malaysians about so many things. In the end, they caused so much damage, which will take years to repair.

Mahathir told us he wants Shafie to be prime minister because the Sabah Chief Minister is opposed to kleptocracy. But Mahathir has not explained how Shafie is going to run the country and what are his plans to overcome the economic disaster in the aftermath of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Today, it is all about lives and livelihoods. People want to know how the government is going to protect the lives and rice-bowls of 32 million Malaysians. Thus far, all the people have heard from Pakatan Harapan or Pakatan Plus is: Mahathir should be PM, Anwar should be PM, Shafie should be PM.

Will Mahathir, Anwar and Shafie make better prime ministers than Muhyiddin? Maybe not. But is that important? The economic wellbeing of the people is not the priority. What is important is “the people’s mandate” — whatever that is supposed to mean.

But what is even more important is that Mahathir gets to choose the next prime minister and this prime minister will be Mahathir’s proxy and he will do whatever Mahathir asks him to do, not like the three prime ministers before that, who Mahathir could not control.
