MACC visits excos’ offices over Penang undersea tunnel project

(FMT) – Officials from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today descended on the offices of two Penang executive councillors at Komtar here to question them over the RM6.3 billion Penang undersea tunnel and three main roads project.

Four officials were seen entering the office of Zairil Khir Johari while three others went to that of P Ramasamy. However, neither councillor was in at the time.

The officials did not respond to questions by reporters although it was learnt that they were sifting through documents in Ramasamy’s office.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said on Wednesday that MACC had written to his office informing him that both current and past exco members would be questioned.

It was earlier reported that a former Penang Port Commission official was arrested after giving his statement at the Penang MACC headquarters on Tuesday.

His home was later raided by MACC officials.

MACC previously raided three companies, with a source telling FMT that the crackdown followed the renewal of a corruption probe into the project after the discovery of fresh leads.
