MACC nabs ex-ministry top official over RM118 mil tender

(FMT) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a former principal assistant secretary of a federal ministry on suspicion of accepting bribes.

The suspect, who is now a director of a training centre, is alleged to have accepted bribes from companies supplying fertiliser worth RM118 million to the ministry.

According to a source in the know, the 42-year-old former high-ranking official was arrested after giving his statement at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.

“The RM118 million tender was awarded to three companies, but all three companies are owned by the same individual,” the source said.

The source added that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act and that MACC has obtained a seven-day remand order for the suspect.

When contacted, MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrest but declined further comment.
