Continue backing ‘His Majesty’s government’, PAS tells partners

(FMT) – PAS has urged political parties in the federal government to continue backing the government mandated by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the King had acted based on his prerogative and discretion under the Federal Constitution when the new government was formed in March.

“Hence, PAS urges all political parties who were given the trust to form His Majesty’s government, currently led by Muhyiddin as the prime minister, to give their full support to ensure the government can function well and effectively.

“The Cabinet comprising members of Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN), GPS, PAS and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) must act collectively and responsibly by prioritising and focusing on the people’s welfare,” he said in a statement today.

Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan had said Umno was mulling over its support for PN, and would propose new terms to the government to ensure the political cooperation would continue.

He also said Umno would propose to Muafakat Nasional (MN) for the alliance to be registered as a political party.

Umno’s announcement came after PKR president Anwar Ibrahim was granted an audience by the King on Tuesday morning.

Anwar previously claimed he had the support of MPs to form a new government, adding that the majority of them consisted of Bumiputera MPs.
