We only act en bloc, says Najib on support for Muhyiddin

(Malaysia Now) – Umno MPs will only decide en bloc on the party’s position in the Perikatan Nasional coalition, former president Najib Razak said today.

“We must act as a single bloc. This is among the views agreed on by everyone,” he told reporters after attending a three-hour meeting with Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders.

Najib is the chairman of BN’s advisory board.

Today’s meeting was called following the Agong’s decision yesterday not to invoke his constitutional powers to declare a state of emergency as proposed by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

BN MPs who met today, however, made no decision on the future of the coalition’s participation in the current government.

Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah yesterday said there was no pressing need for a state of emergency, but warned MPs against politicking which could disrupt the government’s war against Covid-19.

It is learnt that BN leaders today also discussed their support for Muhyiddin.

Padang Besar Zahidi Zainul Abidin said the majority of leaders were against any move to cooperate with PKR’s Anwar Ibrahim or DAP.

“Many BN MPs still hold to the ‘No Anwar, no DAP’ rule,” the deputy communications and multimedia minister added.

He said the people were also to blame for the state of politicking, adding that they had been “tricked” when they cast their ballots in the 2018 election.

Umno adviser Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah meanwhile hinted that the party’s support for Muhyiddin would be decided by its Supreme Council tonight.
