DAP’s Ronnie Liu arrested by police over Facebook post

(FMT) – DAP leader and Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu has been arrested for sedition.

Bukit Aman CID deputy director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid told FMT Liu was detained by Bukit Aman officers after arriving at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters for questioning this morning.

Yesterday, it was reported that Liu was being probed over a social media posting said to be seditious towards the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The post on his Facebook page contained a photo of demonstrations in Thailand with the caption, “Now in Bangkok. They are saying no to the King.”

Bukit Aman CID chief Huzir Mohamed had said investigations into the owner of the Facebook account were being carried out under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act for inciting hate against a ruler or a government.

He said investigations were also being carried out under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

In a Facebook post, DAP deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo said Liu has been released on police bail after being detained for several hours.
