PKR’s “mandat rakyat” scam
Anwar Ibrahim, PKR and Pakatan Harapan should stop conning the people with all this talk of “mandat rakyat” or about “kembalikan mandat rakyat”. That is utter nonsense. The mandate has been terminated. It ended on 24th February 2020 when the government resigned. If you want a new mandate, get it via GE15. The old GE14 mandate has disappeared into thin air.

Anwar Ibrahim, PKR and Pakatan Harapan keep repeating the term “mandat rakyat” over and over again. And they say they want to “kembalikan mandat rakyat” or return the mandate to the people.
What does this actually mean? What is a “mandat rakyat” and in what way was it lost or stolen, and hence needs to be returned to the people?
Actually, this “mandat rakyat” is just a scam, a con-game that Anwar Ibrahim, PKR and Pakatan Harapan are playing. It means nothing. But the problem is not many people know what it means. So Anwar Ibrahim, PKR and Pakatan Harapan can get away with this scam.
A “mandate” is merely the authority that the electorate gives to a political party for it to implement or carry out certain policies that the said party promises the voters. And the mandate involves the period that the government is in power.
In other words, Pakatan Harapan promised the voters, if they ever came to power, they would do so-and-so during a certain period, and in this case this period would be for five years starting from 10th May 2018.
That is the “mandat rakyat” that Anwar Ibrahim, PKR and Pakatan Harapan are talking about. And the mandate the electorate gave Pakatan Harapan commenced on 10th May 2018.
But then Pakatan Harapan told the voters they are not able to fulfil this mandate as promised. Other than abolishing the GST (and replacing it with another tax, so in essence the tax was not abolished but just replaced) all the other promises under this mandate cannot be done, said Pakatan.
In fact, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad even announced that they never really intended to fulfil this mandate anyway, and they just made those election promises because they thought they were never going to win the election.
Anyhow, said Mahathir, an election manifesto is not a holy book, so it really does not need to be followed.
What happened here is, Pakatan Harapan entered into a covenant with the voters. They then broke this covenant. Hence the mandate (or mandat rakyat) was terminated.
Then, on 24th February 2020, Tun Dr Mahathir tendered the resignation of the entire Pakatan Harapan government. In short, Pakatan Harapan and the electorate entered into a divorce, thus ending the mandate (or mandat rakyat) that it had received on 10th May 2018.
What this means is the mandate or “mandat rakyat” that Pakatan Harapan received from the electorate on 10th May 2018 was terminated or rescinded when Pakatan Harapan resigned as the government on 24th February 2020.
PKR and Pakatan Harapan can no longer talk about the “mandat rakyat”. That was terminated on 24th February 2020 when Pakatan Harapan resigned as the government. If Pakatan Harapan wants a new “mandat rakyat” (no such thing as taking back the old mandate, which has already ended) they need to do so through a general election or GE15.

TUMPU USAHA KEMBALIKAN MANDAT RAKYAT
Kenyataan Setiausaha Pemuda DAP agak keterlaluan. Beliau dilaporkan sebagai mendesak Ketua Pembangkang, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim agar meminta maaf selain mengugut agar partinya meninggalkan Pakatan Harapan (PH).
