Anwar promises to honour Perak ruler’s decree against political greed
Opposition leader gives his word amid talk of renewed push to take PM’s post
(The Vibes) – Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has given his word that he will honour the royal decree for a stop to political greed, amid talk of his renewed bid to become prime minister.
In a statement yesterday, he said he will uphold the directive from Perak’s Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, which touched on abuse of power, corruption and political ploys.
“I believe that it (Sultan Nazrin’s decree) is not limited to the political situation in Perak (the state’s recent menteri besar crisis). It is also applicable at the federal level.
“I believe that institutional reform must be expedited in order to enable good governance that does not betray the people’s trust and welfare.”
The PKR president’s statement comes after Astro Awani reported that he will try once more to convince Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah that he has majority support in Parliament.
Quoting an anonymous source, Awani said Anwar has the support of 113 lawmakers via statutory declarations, with those among them being former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak (Pekan) and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Bagan Datuk).
Anwar previously had an audience with the Agong on October 13. The palace, in a statement hours after the meet, said the Port Dickson MP did not substantiate his claim of majority support with proper documentation. – The Vibes, December 14, 2020
