Working with DAP? No way, Umno will never change its stance, says Hisham
(The Star) – Umno will not change its stance to form any kind of cooperation with DAP, says Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
The former party vice-president reminded delegates of Umno’s struggle to champion Islam and the Malay community, which will remain as the party’s top priority.
“Unfortunately, today we can hear voices, and note the acts of some parties who want such cooperation that has never been in our dictionary since the formation of our party 74 years ago,” he said in his speech at the Sembrong division meeting on Sunday (Jan 3).
“It is enough that Pakatan Harapan, which is backed by DAP, has ruled the country for 22 months. We can already see their true colours,” he said.
“We as individuals, who are loyal to the party, must always remain steadfast that Islam and the rights of the Malays, cannot be gambled.
“Both are huge responsibilities of Umno members forever,” he said.
He also warned members to be careful of those extending cooperation for their own self-interest.
“Yes, it is the nature of politics to be dynamic and ever changing. But despite all the instability, Umno cannot change its stance.
“Whoever is friends or enemies with Umno today, Umno will still be Umno. Umno will remain focused and stay strong based on our own struggles.
“Let us not gamble with our struggles and stand just for the sake of power,” he added.
The Sembrong MP also reminded party members to be prepared for the eventuality of a general election.
“We must always be in the election mood. The 15th General Election can happen anytime. It is time for us to prepare and our machinery at all levels must be strengthened,” he said.
