Umno division leaders meet over cooperation with PPBM

(FMT) – Umno leaders from 191 divisions, led by president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, are meeting today in the midst of increased tension between the party and the Perikatan Nasional-led government.

The meeting, being held at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), was called after almost three quarters of the 191 divisions told the party’s leadership that they did not want to cooperate with PPBM in the next general election.

In addition to the division chiefs, those present included Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan, Supreme Council member Ahmad Shabery Cheek and information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan.

Zahid had said he respected the views of the 143 divisions and had called for a meeting with their leaders to discuss the issue.

“As the president, I respect the 143 (division) leaders’ decision (not to work with PPBM),” he said.

Supreme Council member Shahidan Kassim told reporters before the meeting began just before noon that not all division leaders were able to attend as some were involved with flood problems in their constituencies.
