We will stay neutral in Umno-PPBM feud, says PAS

(FMT) – Despite huge expectations that PAS will make a stand on the current feud between PPBM and Umno, the central committee did not even discuss it at its meeting today.

Describing the spat as an “internal” issue between the two partners, PAS central committee member Khairuddin Aman Razali said there was also no issue as to who they would work with in the next general election.

“Our stand has always been consistent, that is to strengthen Muafakat Nasional to face GE15 and defend the Perikatan Nasional government now,” he told reporters after the central committee meeting.

Khairuddin said the meeting was a routine one, adding that PAS would not interfere in the affairs of Umno or PPBM and would leave it to them to resolve their differences.

According to a news report earlier, PPBM Supreme Council member Dr Muhammad Faiz Na’aman had asked PAS to decide if it wanted to be with his party or Umno in the next general election.

“Although there are no problems between PAS and PPBM, I feel it must decide who it will be with in GE15 as this will make it easier for us to prepare for the elections,” he had told Sinar Harian.

The current dispute between Umno and PPBM came to the fore after 143 out of Umno’s 191 divisions informed the party’s leadership that they were against working with PPBM in GE15.

Umno will discuss this at its delegates’ meeting scheduled for the end of the month.
