Ex-AG Apandi lodges report against his successor

(FMT) – Former attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali has lodged a police report against Tommy Thomas, claiming that his successor had committed offences under the Penal Code and Official Secrets Act (OSA) through his newly released book.

After making the report at the Sentul police station today, Apandi told reporters that Thomas had made baseless accusations against him through his memoir titled My Story: Justice in the Wilderness.

“The book contains defamatory accusations against me, especially on page 199. Defamation is a crime punishable under Section 500 of the Penal Code,” he told the media.

Apandi, who was accompanied by his lawyer Baljit Singh Sindhu, said his report also touched on how Thomas had revealed several confidential matters which were still subject to secrecy laws, including discussions at Cabinet meetings and matters related to his role as attorney-general.

He said Thomas was still bound by the oath he had taken when he was appointed to the position, although he was no longer attorney-general.

“In my view, the revelations are a crime under Section 8 of the OSA and Section 203A of the Penal Code,” he wrote in his report.
