PKR MPs quit party and declare support for Muhyiddin
(FMT) – Two PKR MPs have quit the party and declared their support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
They are Julau MP Larry Sng and Tebrau MP Steven Choong.
Hizwan Ahmad, political secretary to housing and local government minister Zuraida Kamaruddin, announced this in a Facebook post today.
“After one year of evaluating the government’s performance, two PKR MPs today decided to support Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Muhyiddin as prime minister. Congratulations Julau and Tebrau,” he said.
Earlier, it was reported that Sng had resigned as Sarawak PKR chairman on Friday. He had announced his decision to step down during a video conference with the state leadership council on Friday.
He had wanted to step down from the post in December last year. However, he decided to stay on after meeting party president Anwar Ibrahim.
Earlier this week, Choong had denied that he was joining PN after visits he made to several ministers triggered speculation.
Earlier this week, FMT reported that two PKR MPs were in talks with middlemen from PN to cross over to the governing coalition.
Sources in the know had said one MP was from East Malaysia and the other from the peninsula.
PKR won 48 parliamentary seats in the last general election but is now left with 36.
