DAP will not be intimidated or enticed to support PN, stresses Guan Eng
(The New Sarawak) – DAP leaders will not cow down to intimidation tactics nor be lured by enticement into supporting the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government, said party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
Addressing delegates at the Perak DAP Convention this morning, the Bagan MP was touching on the recent cross-over of several opposition lawmakers into supporting Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin when he said that “it was not easy for DAP parliamentarians too”.
“Lately there have been many news reports about PKR MPs who jumped (into supporting PN). I have read the statement by PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail yesterday that their Kuala Langat MP was pressured into crossing over… because he could not bear the pressure and threats from MACC.
“Even PKR MP R Sivarasa stated that Xavier (Jayakumar) was pressured by a selective MACC investigation,” he said in his speech.
While no DAP MPs have defected, the party was still hit by defections among state assemblypersons.
“I know it has not been easy for 42 DAP MPs who were elected in 2018, to still stick with DAP until today. It has not been easy to face such tactics, doesn’t matter in what form.
“However, as we are celebrating 55 years since the formation of DAP, I want to state here that we, all DAP representatives and grassroots members, will stay true to our idealism and principles.
“We will not sell the country’s dignity for money nor be intimidated,” Lim said as reported by Malaysiakini.
He also said the DAP wonn’t work with “kleptocrats” amid a faction in Umno, many of whom are facing graft cases, drifting towards the opposition.
He also reiterated the need for Pakatan Harapan to gather all opposition parties together, including those not part of the coalition.
“We need the formula to win the 15th general election by uniting all Malaysians who are prepared to defend parliamentary democracy and stop Perikatan Nasional (PN) from turning Malaysia into a failed state.
“To fulfil this goal, the DAP stresses that it won’t work with kleptocrats,” he added.
