Umno man quits GLC post after decision to cut ties with PPBM

Pasir Puteh Umno division chief Zawawi Othman has resigned from a company linked to the Perikatan Nasional-led government, believed to be the first party leader to do so after it formalised its decision to end cooperation with PPBM in the next general election.

(FMT) – According to Astro Awani, Zawawi announced his immediate resignation as chairman of Kesedar Kilang Sdn Bhd in Pasir Putra last night. Kesedar Kilang is a company owned by Lembaga Kemajuan Kelantan Selatan.

However, the report said he has yet to submit a formal letter of resignation but plans to do so in the “near future”.

Zawawi said his resignation was in line with the decision made by Umno to stop lending its support to the PN-led government come election time

He called on other Umno leaders to resign from government-linked companies (GLCs) following the motion adopted at the 2020 Umno general assembly held last weekend.

At the assembly, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also said his party was considering another ultimatum to immediately withdraw support for the government the moment the emergency is lifted, but added that this will be discussed further at the next Supreme Council meeting.

Zawawi was appointed the chairman of Kesedar Kilang Sdn Bhd on Oct 26 last year.
