ETIKA DAN PENGURUSAN INSTITUSI YANG DI-PERTUAN AGONG: 1 April 1995
Those who are saying this, that and the other should read this 1st April 1995 document in relation to the 24th June 1994 constitutional amendments and understand the issue before shooting off their mouths.
NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
So many people are saying so many things: lawyers, politicians, activists, journalists, etc. And everyone is interpreting, or re-interpreting, the law and the Federal Constitution of Malaysia according to their own tafsiran.
On 1st April 1995, the government of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim issued the ETIKA DAN PENGURUSAN INSTITUSI YANG DI-PERTUAN AGONG (READ HERE).
This document is marked RAHSIA, so be very careful what you do with it because being in possession of it and/or circulating it is a crime under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) and you can be charged and jailed for that crime.
The document is self-explanatory, so I need not repeat what it says. Just spend a few minutes to read it and you will understand what Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong can and cannot do, plus must and must not do.
Have Dr Mahathir and Anwar forgotten the 24th June 1994 constitutional amendments and the 1st April 1995 document, ETIKA DAN PENGURUSAN INSTITUSI YANG DI-PERTUAN AGONG?
This 1st April 1995 document was issued and circulated by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to reiterate the controversial constitutional amendments of 24th June 1994, which were pushed through by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Basically, this document was the product of what is now known as the Second Constitutional Crisis of the 1990s (after the First Constitutional Crisis of the 1980s).
Today, Mahathir, Anwar and Pakatan Harapan (plus Umno, which was behind this document in 1995) are saying the opposite of what they did in the 1980s and 1990s.
Those who are saying this, that and the other should read this 1st April 1995 document in relation to the 24th June 1994 constitutional amendments and understand the issue before shooting off their mouths.
Sigh…I think I want to be a constitutional lawyer when I grow up.
