Najib plays the “Royal” card in new political strategy to oust the PM
(FMT) – Reject those in Umno who are silent or are conspiring against the orders of the Malay Rulers and the parliamentary system for the sake of preserving their own positions, says Najib Razak.
He noted that Umno was formed in 1946 for the purpose of opposing the Malayan Union and to defend the Malay Rulers as well as the freedom of the country.
“The main objectives of the party, as enshrined under Clause 3 of the Umno constitution, are to support and defend the constitutional monarchy and the parliamentary democratic system,” he said in a Facebook post.
Najib said it was important for Umno leaders and members to speak out in the interests of the people and parliamentary democracy.
He said if the country was not in a critical state, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah would not have met political party leaders, government agencies and the Malay Rulers, and followed it up with two explicit statements.
Najib said those who were no longer interested in Umno’s fight should not be nominated again in the next Umno elections.
“Even if (they are) nominated, these people will be rejected by the people who are suffering. And if they contest in the party elections, all Umno members must reject them,” he said.
Last week, it was reported that the Agong wanted Parliament to reconvene as soon as possible.
The Malay Rulers also said there was no need for the nation to remain under a state of emergency after Aug 1. They also called for state assemblies to reconvene soon.
