It is now officially called the BN government, no longer the PN government

The rule of the PN government (PN meaning a coalition of BN, PAS and PPBM) ended on Monday when Muhyiddin Yassin resigned from office. Hence now the new government must not be called the PN government but the BN or Umno-BN government (even though PAS, PPBM and “others” are still in the government).

(Malay Mail Online) – Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has asserted that new Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s administration is a Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

He insisted on this as the majority of the MPs supporting Ismail Sabri come from PN, who have 50 MPs, and not Barisan Nasional, who have 41.

“To us, this is a PN government. Our friends on the other side (BN) have 41.

Less than 24 hours after the new prime minister, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, took his oath of office as Malaysia’s Ninth Prime Minister (PM9), Umno activists — such as Abdul Rahman Dahlan, etc. — are alleging that the new government (yet to be formed) is a Barisan Nasional government (or Umno-BN government) and no longer a Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

The rule of the PN government (PN meaning a coalition of BN, PAS and PPBM) ended on Monday when Muhyiddin Yassin resigned from office. In short, Muhyiddin Yassin is the leader of Perikatan Nasional while Ismail Sabri Yaakob is the leader of Umno-BN. So the government must adopt the identity of the Prime Minister’s party. Does that make sense now?

Labelling is very important to Malaysians. Kerajaan Gagal. Kleptocrat Government. Failed State. Taliban Party. Racist Party. Mahafiraun. Mamak Bendahara. Al Juburi. Din Pasar.

This is basically Chinese culture. However, Malays have also adopted this culture — just like Malays also give out ang pau during Hari Raya just like how the Chinese do for their Raya Cina.

I learned this as a teenager back in the 1960s when I asked why I was called Serani Chai (Eurasian Boy), my overweight best friend was called Chee Chai (Pig Boy), our Indian friend was called Keling Chai (Indian Boy), while the girls called me Leng Chai (Handsome Boy), etc.

Yes, the Chinese never call you by your name but by the “label” or nickname. And now the Malays have adopted that same culture, like how they have done so in the ang pau for Raya culture.

So there you have it. The Barisan Nasional government fell in May 2018. The Pakatan Harapan government fell in February 2020. The Perikatan Nasional government fell in August 2021. And now we have the rule of the Barisan Nasional or Umno-BN government, which might fall in September 2021 if Ismail Sabri fails to win his vote of confidence in Parliament — since PAS and PPBM are not officially members of the new government.
