Mandat Rakyat and voting for Beruk
So, 11 years on, this is what Malaysians have: beruk as their wakil rakyat. And today they scream about kembalikan mandat rakyat. Mandat rakyat apa? Mandat rakyat ialah undi untuk beruk sebagai wakil rakyat. Mandat rakyat apa lagi mahu?
NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
Beruk are quite useful creatures. In Malaysia’s Malay heartland, they are used as coconut-pluckers. They are not only good at climbing coconut trees, but they also know which coconuts are ripe for plucking.
The trouble with these creatures is, they are very temperamental. They sometimes climb the coconut tree and then just sit there. They will refuse to work while the beruk-handler tries to persuade it to end its mogok or ‘strike’ in vain. There have also been many cases of the beruk attacking and biting its handler.
One thing you can be very sure of, though, you never know what a beruk will do and you need to expect anything, including betrayal. Hence, sometimes their usefulness is outweighed by their unpredictable nature.
You get what you vote for
Most Malaysians, probably 99% of Malaysians, will tell you they will vote for the party and not the candidate contesting in an election, both state and federal elections. I am also the same. I normally vote for the bulan logo even if a beruk is the candidate in that constituency.
You probably heard the saying ‘if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys’? Well, if you vote for a beruk you will also get a beruk. And this is the real reason why Malaysia’s politics has been reduced to below par level.
What most Malaysians, again probably 99% of Malaysians, do not understand is that all their complaints about what is wrong with Malaysia are merely the symptoms and not the cause. But then only 1% of Malaysians like me are enlightened enough to tell the difference between cause and symptom.
And, more importantly, you cannot treat the symptoms of the disease, you need to treat the cause. But Malaysians will always talk about the symptoms of the disease and try to treat the symptoms rather than the cause.
The man who enjoys the sound of his own voice
For example, Anwar Ibrahim dan orang-orang yang sewaktu dengannya keep talking about corruption, abuse of power, wastage of public funds, the need for transparency and good governance, selective prosecution, discrimination and persecution, and much more. And they say all these need to be addressed and corrected.
Wrong! All those cannot be addressed and corrected because all those are merely the symptoms that Malaysia is sick. You need to attack the cause of the sickness. Once the cause is eliminated, the symptoms will automatically disappear.
And the cause is we vote for beruk as our wakil rakyat because we vote for the party and not for the candidate. So, if we vote for beruk, we will get beruk as our wakil rakyat.
Communists masquerading as democrats
So there you are. That is the cause of our disease. All the other so-called causes that Anwar Ibrahim dan orang-orang yang sewaktu dengannya scream about are not the causes. They are just the symptoms. And they cannot be cured in 1,000 years. But cure the cause and the symptoms will automatically disappear.
The problem is, only 1% of Malaysians like me understand this. The rest of the 99% of Malaysians like you still think that you can ignore the cause of the disease and cure the symptoms of the disease. And you do this by electing beruk as your wakil rakyat because they happen to be from the political party you support.
In 2010, we told you about this. We even launched a movement called the Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM) so that we can organise non-party candidates for the general election as alternatives to the beruk from the political parties.
Not only did Barisan Nasional reject the idea, but so did Pakatan Rakyat. Nobody wanted alternative candidates to those from Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat. They only wanted Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat candidates even if they are beruk.
DAP will even bend over for Mahathir if they can win the Malay votes
So, 11 years on, this is what Malaysians have: beruk as their wakil rakyat. And today they scream about kembalikan mandat rakyat. Mandat rakyat apa? Mandat rakyat ialah undi untuk beruk sebagai wakil rakyat. Mandat rakyat apa lagi mahu?
Mandate: the authority to carry out a policy, regarded as given by the electorate to a party or candidate that wins an election.
Hello…once you cast your vote, you serah your mandate kepada wakil rakyat. Now the wakil rakyat holds your mandate. You have given your wakil rakyat the power-of-attorney to act on your behalf. So, up to the wakil rakyatlah who he or she wants to support as prime minister. As your wakil, he or she holds your mandate to decide on your behalf.
