No probe into allegations of missing Tabung Haji funds, Dewan told
There had been no investigation paper opened to probe claims that Tabung Haji (TH) funds had been misappropriated prior to 2018, deputy religious affairs minister Ahmad Marzuk Shaary told the Dewan Rakyat today.
(FMT) – He said this includes allegations against former TH chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, who was previously accused of having misappropriated the funds.
Marzuk was responding to a supplementary question by Azeez (BN-Baling), who wanted to know if any investigation paper had been opened on the matter following various allegations of misappropriation that led to some 250,000 depositors closing their accounts.
Azeez was TH chairman from 2013 to 2018.
Marzuk went on to reveal that the finance ministry-owned Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd (UJSB) had only earned RM233.98 million in 2019.
“This sum is insufficient to clear the RM27.6 billion debt incurred by TH.”
UJSB was set up as a special-purpose vehicle to take over and manage TH’s underperforming assets.
In 2018, then inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun confirmed that investigations were being carried out into the alleged misappropriation of funds by TH.
Fuzi said the probe was being conducted by the Commercial Crimes Department.
