Why go after Rosmah but not after Rizal?

If Rosmah is truly guilty of corruption, then Rizal is equally or even more guilty. So, sparing him just so that he can be used to fix up Rosmah may be legal but is certainly immoral. And this was done by the Pakatan Harapan government, which means they are not really that noble after all, as they pretend to be.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

What is most puzzling is why did the Pakatan Harapan government drop the corruption charges against Rizal Mansor but proceed with the case against Rosmah Mansor?

I do not wish to debate whether Rosmah is guilty or innocent because the trial is currently going on and the court will decide that matter. So let us not commit sub judice and leave it to the court to answer that question.

What we want answered is, Rizal negotiated and collected the bribe, kononnya on behalf of Rosmah. So why has the charge against him been dropped if he was involved in the crime? Is it because he had “cooperated” with the prosecution and had agreed to fix up his boss, Rosmah?

If Rizal is playing ‘crown witness’ with the ‘reward’ of the charge against him being dropped, then he cannot be an impartial witness because he is testifying due to self-interest. The testimony of someone who is testifying to escape jail if he fixes up his boss is highly suspect.

The fact that Rizal is corrupt, and that this matter is well-known, makes it even more dodgy. I know for a fact that he takes bribes and people who had dealings with him have confirmed this.

One such person is Nelson Fernandez. Back in 2016, Free Malaysia Today was in dire straits so Nelson tried to sell it to Umno. Nelson valued Free Malaysia Today at RM60 million and wanted to sell 50% at RM30 million.

The person Nelson negotiated with was Rizal, and he asked for a kickback of RM10 million. Eventually, the deal did not happen because Umno did not think Free Malaysia Today was worth RM60 million, or that 50% of it was worth RM30 million.

Today, Umno owns Free Malaysia Today, of course, but they paid far lower than RM60 million for it.

Anyway, the point is, it was easier to do deals with Umno through Rizal Manor because he is corrupt. Most people, especially the non-Malays, would rather negotiate with corrupt Umno leaders and officials.

Prosecution drops case against Rosmah’s aide

(Malaysiakini, 8 January 2020) – Rizal Mansor, a former aide to Rosmah Mansor, has been acquitted of corruption charges after prosecutors withdrew their case.

Deputy public prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram had informed Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohamad Zaini Mazlan of this development this afternoon.

In 2018, Rizal was charged with soliciting and receiving bribes of RM5.5 million for himself and more for Rosmah for a solar energy project in Sarawak.

Rosmah was charged for soliciting RM189 million in bribes. Their cases were eventually heard together.

This latest development does open up speculation that Rizal might become a prosecution witness.

In November, prosecutors informed the Kuala Lumpur High Court that the former 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy would become a prosecution witness against co-accused Najib Abdul Razak.

Arul Kanda and Najib were both standing trial over the alleged tampering of the auditor-general’s report on 1MDB.

At the time, prosecutors said will invoke Section 63 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 to compel Arul Kanda to testify against Najib.

Unlike Arul Kanda’s case, the prosecutors for Rizal’s case did not cite Section 63.
