Parliament officer dies of Covid-19

(FMT) – A 54-year-old Parliament officer died of Covid-19 yesterday after being treated in hospital for nearly three weeks.

In a statement, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya health director Dr Param Jeeth Singh said the man had been fully vaccinated since July 11 and did not suffer from any chronic illnesses.

The officer tested positive on Nov 8 after experiencing a cough and fever since Nov 3. After being confirmed to be positive, he was instructed to report to a Covid-19 assessment centre (CAC) for clinical evaluation.

He informed health workers at the CAC on Nov 9 that he was experiencing difficulty breathing. He was categorised as Category 4 and admitted to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

Param said the officer had only travelled between work and home, and did not meet MPs or senators in the two weeks before he started developing symptoms.

“He was also not present for work since he started exhibiting symptoms and was last at his office on Nov 3.

“Four close contacts – two from his home and the other two from his workplace – had been identified and all four had been quarantined. An investigation is ongoing to identify the source of the infection,” he said.
