Najib files appeal at Federal Court over SRC conviction

(The Star) – Datuk Seri Najib Razak has filed an appeal to the Federal Court against the decision of the Court of Appeal that upheld his conviction and sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

Lawyer Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohammed, who is part of Najib’s defence team, confirmed that the filing was done on Wednesday (Dec 8), several hours after the decision was delivered.

“It was filed at about 3pm – 4pm,” he said in a text message when contacted by The Star.

No date has been given for case management.

Yesterday, the Court of Appeal rejected Najib’s appeal in the SRC case where he was convicted and sentenced over seven charges of criminal breach of trust, money laundering and abuse of power.

He was sentenced in total of 12 years jail and a RM210 million fine.

In a press conference via Zoom yesterday, Najib’s lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said that he was confident the Federal Court will allow their appeal to overturn the lower courts decisions.
