Anwar was also jailed six years for the same crime

When Anwar was in government from 1982 to 1998, he did the same thing. When Pakatan Harapan was the government from May 2018 to February 2020, they did the same thing. Everyone in power does the same thing. So stop moralising and acting holier-than-thou. Everyone is guilty of this crime when in power, and it is never going to change.

NO HOLDS BARRED

(MMO) – Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim criticised the police today for investigating PKR Youth and the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) over a gathering telling Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki to step down.

He also decried the summoning of Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik who observed the event and the police investigation against Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching over a five-year-old social media posting that she shared.

“This move is clearly a form of intimidation and pressure by the authorities on Opposition leaders who are merely addressing the symptoms of corruption in the country.

“I urge the inspector-general of police to stop such harassment against them,” he said in a statement this evening. (READ MORE HERE)

Anwar Ibrahim seems to have forgotten that in 1998 he was arrested, charged, tried, convicted, and jailed for six years for using the Special Branch to intimidate witnesses to get them to change their statement to the police.

Anwar appealed the conviction but lost, and the conviction still stands until today. In fact, the police illegally arrested the witnesses and tried to force them to change their statement. Hence there was no way Anwar could have won his appeal.

While Anwar was in the government for 16 years from 1982 to 1998, the police were used many times against the opposition. In 1985, 36 people were arrested and 18 people died in Memali. In the 1987 Operasi Lalang, 119 anti-government people were detained without trial and four newspapers critical of the government were suspended when their licences were withdrawn.

And, for the record, Anwar said nothing and did nothing during all that time.

In 1992 (by then Anwar had been appointed the Finance Minister) Lim Kit Siang told Parliament that Bank Negara Malaysia had lost RM31.5 billion gambling in the FOREX market.

Anwar denied the allegation and called it lies.

A year later, it was proven that Anwar was the one who had lied, but he told Parliament that it was merely a ‘paper loss’, not a ‘real’ loss, and that it was not as much as RM31.5 billion as alleged — maybe just RM7 billion or so.

Anwar is the last person on earth who has any right to talk about all these matters. Everything he is screaming about are crimes that he himself committed when he was in government.

The fact that Bukit Aman or the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), etc., are political tools to be used by the government against critics and anti-government people is a fact that is known in Malaysia since more than 50 years now.

PDRM, MACC, AGC, and more, serve the government of the day. The military, on the other hand, serves the people. That is why the ten Raja-Raja Melayu (His Majesty the Agong included) are heads of the various branches of the Armed Forces.

Tommy Thomas was DAP, which was why he was appointed the Attorney-General.

Latheefa Koya was PKR, which was why she was appointed the MACC Chief.

Bank Negara’s Zeti Akhtar Abdul Aziz was Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s ‘bitch’, which was why she was appointed a member of Council or Eminent Persons (CEP).

And the list goes on.

So these people serve the government of the day, or else they are removed — like what happened in July 2015 when a few heads of the various government agencies ganged-up against Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and were removed. It is how they do things in Malaysia for the last 50 years, and for the next 50 years as well.
