Umno veteran questions Annuar’s ‘poster boy’ remarks
An Umno veteran has questioned Annuar Musa’s claim that the party has endorsed Ismail Sabri Yaakob as its prime minister candidate ahead of the next general election (GE15).
(FMT) – Johor Bahru Umno chief Shahrir Samad said he was intrigued as to how Annuar could make such a claim on his Facebook page when the federal minister had not even attended the Umno Supreme Council meeting on Tuesday.
“Only Tan Sri Annuar, even though he is a minister, did not attend the Supreme Council meeting.
“But perhaps as the minister in charge of multimedia, he has accurate information on a meeting he himself did not attend,” he said.
Yesterday, Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi also hit out at those who had started naming a “poster boy” for the party ahead of GE15, saying no such decision had been made yet.
“A ‘poster boy’ must guarantee the party’s victory in the general election.
“They are chosen based on their stature, policies and ability to defend the rakyat.
“They can’t be soft, be a follower and slow in making decisions,” he said, alluding to the naming of Ismail as the “poster boy” by some Umno leaders.
His comments were seen as a response to Annuar’s claim that the Umno Supreme Council had endorsed Ismail to continue as the country’s leader until the end of the 14th parliamentary term next year.
