Only pork and liquor are haram to most Malays
In that sense, Malay-Muslims are true liberals and not extremists like what DAP says. Other than not eating pork or drinking liquor, Malay-Muslims do everything else. And many do not eat pork but drink beer and liquor.

DAP says most Malay-Muslims are extremists (DAP refers to Malay-Muslims who do not eat pork or drink beer-liquor as Talibans). Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says Malay-Muslims are fundamentalist Muslims (a person who believes in the strict, literal interpretation of scripture in a religion).
The truth is most Malay-Muslims are quite liberal and not at all extremists, as DAP says. Most Malays do not eat pork, of course, but many will drink. They regard only pork as being haram, but not liquor.
But even those Malay-Muslims who are ‘extremists’ or ‘Taliban’ in nature (by DAP’s standards, of course), they only do not eat pork and drink liquor. As for their rest, there is no pantang-larang (taboo). It is no holds barred for all except pork and liquor, even for sins that Islam considers worse than eating pork and drinking liquor.
Hence, in that sense, Malay-Muslims are very liberal by Islamic standards and not at all extremists or ‘Talibans’, as DAP says.
Fitnah (the favourite hobby of most Malay-Muslims) is a worse sin than eating pork and drinking liquor. So are zina, adultery, gay relationships, and sodomy. Sheikh Imran Hosein says riba’ (usury) is a worse sin than sex with one’s own parent — but most Malay-Muslims have credit cards and loans that attract interest. And Malay-Muslims, especially politicians, are oozing with arrogance, riya’ and takbur, deadly sins in Islam, just like in Christianity.
And corruption and bribery have become as normal as breathing for Malay-Muslims. Many go to Mekah every year, pray five times a day, fast the whole month of Ramadhan, etc. But they are corrupt as hell that even Satan blushes at the no holds barred corruption involving Malay-Muslims.
And the support and votes of Malay-Muslims are very cheap and do not cost much. For just RM1.5 billion, your party can win the general election and you can become prime minister — according to Dr Mahathir when he condemned Najib Razak for spending RM2.6 billion when it should have been only RM1.5 billion.
