Zahid sends letters of demand to Mahathir, Muhyiddin

(Malaysia Now) – Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has issued letters of demand to former prime ministers Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin over allegedly defamatory statements made against him.

Messrs Shahrul Hamidi and Haziq, representing Zahid, issued two separate media statements on the matter.

According to the statement, Mahathir was alleged to have issued his statement during a question-and-answer session after the launch of Aspirasi Pejuang for the Johor state election in Putrajaya on Feb 23. Muhyiddin is alleged to have made his statement in a speech at Felda Tenggaroh, Johor, on Feb 16.

The letters of demand were issued and served on Mahathir and Muhyiddin on Feb 25 and Feb 23 respectively.

“To date we have not received any response from them,” the statement said.

The letters among others demand that the two leaders stop making the remarks and remove the published statements within seven days.

They also demand that a written open apology be issued to Zahid with a promise that they will not repeat the statements again.
