We don’t need ‘poster boy’ for GE15, insists Umno leader
In April, the Umno Supreme Council agreed to name Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob as its “poster boy” for GE15.
(FMT) – An Umno Supreme Council member says the party no longer needs a “poster boy” for the 15th general election, stating that it is “no longer relevant”.
“Even if a decision was already made, it is now a liability. It’s better to just cancel the ‘poster boy’,” said Puad Zarkashi in a Facebook post.
“It’s easy to slander ‘poster boys’. It’s better if the BN logo is used as a ‘poster boy’. Inanimate objects are difficult to slander.
“After all, the BN logo is already ingrained in the people’s minds.”
Without naming anyone, Puad also said that “poster boys” cannot be “vain and weak”.
In April, the Umno Supreme Council agreed to name Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob as its “poster boy” for GE15.
There were claims that Umno leaders tried to get Ismail to intervene in former prime minister Najib Razak’s final SRC International appeal in the Federal Court, but both Ismail and Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan have since denied such rumours.
Najib was sent to the Kajang Prison yesterday after the Federal Court upheld his 12-year jail term and RM210 million fine in his SRC International case.
He had been convicted on seven charges of abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust involving RM42 million in SRC funds.
