Muhyiddin set to return as tenth PM if PN wins GE15

Perikatan Nasional (PN) appears to have endorsed its chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime ministerial candidate in the event the coalition comes into power after the 15th General Election(GE15).

(NST) – Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said all three PN component parties – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Pas and Gerakan – were already prepared to go into battle with the ultimate aim of securing victory.

“We win in GE15, we set up the government from the mandate given by the people, by the people and for the people …we will elect Tan Sri Muhyiddin as the tenth prime minister,” he said in his speech before Muhyiddin launched Pahang’s PN election machinery at the Al-Makmur complex in Kerdau here last night.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Bersatu president, had previously served as the eight prime minister between March 1, 2020, before he resigned on Aug 16, 2021.

He stepped down after failing to secure majority support from the members of parliament (MP) after 15 Umno MPs withdrew their support for PN.

He said since the Election Commission (EC) will announce the nomination, early voting and polling dates soon, he hopes that seat distribution talks will be done soon.

“Parliament has been dissolved and GE15 will be held within 60 days. Maybe in the next one or two weeks, the EC will announce the important dates, so seat negotiations have to be completed soon.

“Once everyone agrees (all component parties), we at the central leadership can quickly endorse the candidates list for those contesting at the parliamentary and state seats. I was informed that negotiations for the parliamentary seats had been concluded,” he said.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said all PN component parties regardless of Bersatu, Pas or Gerakan will work and contest GE15 under one banner.

“PN will establish one election machinery to operate as a team in one centre and there is no need to have separate tents (centres). A victory for Pas ( at parliament or state seat) means a win for its PN partners, Bersatu and Gerakan so all three component parties will work hard to ensure each other’s win,” he said.

Also present was Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Pahang PN chairman Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah and Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
