PN poised to name Shahidan for Arau seat

Perikatan Nasional (PN) is looking to field Umno’s Shahidan Kassim for the Arau parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).

(FMT) – Yesterday, the former Arau MP said he still wants to contest the seat although his name was dropped as a BN candidate and replaced by Rozabil Abdul Rahman.

Perlis PN chairman Shukri Ramli said discussions were ongoing at PN and PAS’ headquarters to field Shahidan, who is the former federal territories minister, for PN.

“Yes, PN wants to give way to Shahidan. We are waiting for the green light from central PN and PAS (leaders),” he told FMT.

“That is the proposal. Whatever it is, we will wait for the decision of both parties (PN and PAS),” he said, adding that Perlis PN wants to field Shahidan because of his “winnability” factor.

“PAS has no problem with it. I’m not sure about Bersatu, but I don’t think they have any problems either. I think it will work out.”

Shukri said he was confident that PAS supporters at the grassroots level would approve the decision.

He said an official announcement may be made when PN’s candidates for Terengganu and Kelantan are unveiled tonight.
