Could there be more throwing out of court cases in Zahid’s PM ambition?

Zahid is perhaps at his best shot and time to become PM, now that Najib is out of the picture while Ismail Sabri is losing his support in UMNO, and as many claim is only standing as a poster boy in the coalition.

(Focus Malaysia) – BARISAN Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi might be one step closer to becoming the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia if the coalition wins big at the forthcoming 15th national polls.

Zahid, the incumbent Bagan Datuk MP who has been pivotal in calling for a general election smack in the middle of a monsoon season is looked upon by the rakyat as a hurried move perhaps to save himself from impending court cases over corruption.
Many are reluctant to actually go out and cast their vote during a sudden call for election. The rakyat have got other major issues to worry about, including the unpredictability of the monsoon season and the high cost of living due to the downtrend of the economy as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

However, going back to Zahid. While the BN coalition is advocating hard to stay in Government come GE15, and the Zahid camp which is in favour of making him PM, the senior politician has an uphill battle to helm the post, as he has to have a good rapport with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah in order to be a successful Prime Minister.

Should he become the nation’s premier, he has the power to change the entire judiciary system to favour him, hence doing away with his court cases. Zahid will have the authority to appoint an attorney-general that is aligned to him and his camp, ultimately with the indirect privilege of going scot-free with the throwing out of many court cases.

Moreover, Zahid truly has the ultimate support of his camp, those aligned to caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob have been mooted out as possible candidates in GE15. This is an indirect way of writing off Ismail by Zahid. Similarly, Zahid has no competition in his run for PM, except from the Opposition as former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak is behind bars and is no political threat to him.

However, the BN leadership has denied a pledge made by BN’s communication director Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah which promised to support Zahid who is UMNO President as Prime Minister.

As reported, the pledge allegedly signed by Shamsul Anuar had promised to give Cabinet posts and political appointments to UMNO MPs, as well as dropping court charges involving party leaders. Becoming Prime Minister will also accord Zahid to settle unfinished business he had while he was deputy prime minister during Najib’s term as then prime minister.

Being a PM also gives Zahid the privilege to represent the country abroad, thus, spending time overseas, and most importantly as many have pointed out, enjoying the perks of being a nation’s premier.

Zahid is also confident in gaining the support of Sarawak’s BN ally, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) who has stated should BN form the government, the coalition will return and support BN in the formation of the new government.

With that assurance from perhaps the richest state in Malaysia, Zahid is probably right in preparation to take on the cabinet and Putrajaya knowing the unlikelihood of GPS being aligned with Pakatan Harapan (PH) is a given.

Zahid is perhaps at his best shot and time to become PM, now that Najib is out of the picture while Ismail Sabri is losing his support in UMNO, and as many claim is only standing as a poster boy in the coalition.
