Make KJ our DPM candidate, Umno Youth leader tells BN
An Umno Youth leader has suggested that Barisan Nasional (BN) make Khairy Jamaluddin the poster boy for the deputy prime minister’s post allocated for West Malaysia.
(FMT) – Umno Youth exco member Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin said this could help BN cruise to a big win at the Nov 19 polls, adding that Khairy was well-received by Malaysians as a whole.
According to Berita Harian, Muqharabbin said the reception given to Khairy in Sungai Buloh so far made it look like “only Sungai Buluh is having an election”.
“It is clear why Khairy is acceptable to Malaysians. It’s because of his success at every ministry that he had led,” Muqharabbin reportedly said.
BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had pledged to appoint three deputy prime ministers from Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia respectively if the coalition won the general election.
At a ceramah last night, Khairy voiced his aspiration to become prime minister of Malaysia “one day”, but he also stressed that he wanted to prove himself first in Sungai Buloh.
However, Khairy, who has never made his ambitions known until now, conceded that his announcement could also force the Umno leadership to “cut me off”.
The health minister is in a seven-way fight for the Sungai Buloh seat. He will be going against Pakatan Harapan’s R Ramanan, Perikatan Nasional’s Ghazali Hamin, Pejuang’s Akmal Yusoff, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Ahmad Zuhri Faiza, and two independent candidates.
