Amicable solution reached between PAS, Penang mall operator for ‘more private’ alcohol sale

COULD this be a mild taste of the ‘green wave’ effect in the offing for Penangites?

(Focus Malaysia) – PAS Permatang Pauh under the leadership of its first-term MP Muhammad Fawwaz Muhammad Jan who inflicted a shock defeat on incumbent Nurul Izzah Anwar during the
15th General Election (GE15) has swiftly acted on complaints about “open selling” of alcohol at the Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya, mainland Penang.

This follows a Facebook post by the PAS Permatang Pauh information chief Jamsari Samad who expressed regret over the matter two days ago.

“We request and demand that the Seberang Perai City Council take immediate action to stop this alcohol promotion to respect the sensitivity of the Muslim community here,” he lamented.

“Is this the administrative policy of the Penang State Government under DAP to allow the open sale of alcohol in shopping malls? It is hoped that the management of the shopping mall will take care of the sensitivity of the surrounding community which is predominantly Muslim in Seberang Jaya.”

Following a series of grievances and complaints from the Muslim community regarding the open sale of alcohol at the Sunway Carnival Mall, Fawwaz said he along with several of the party’s service centre officers had met up with the mall’s management to convey the discomfort of Muslim shoppers.
