Our job to defend and uphold the Constitution, says KDM
Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) President Datuk Peter Anthony maintains that Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor lacks the constitutional requirements to continue as Chief Minister.
(Daily Express) – He said it is KDM’s job, through its three state assemblymen, to defend and uphold the State Constitution.
He said this in a statement, Monday, following a meeting with the party’s top leaders.
“We stand by our previous statement that the Sabah Constitution must be upheld and as assemblymen elected by the people, we must do so.
“The Chief Minister’s current status violates the Constitution because he does not belong to a party and is not a party leader.
“The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) did not run in the State Election, only in the recent General Election. As a result, we maintain our stand and leave the decision to the judgement of the Head of State,” he said.
Peter, who is also Melalap Assemblyman, said his party’s action was not intended to grab power grab but to safeguard the Constitution.
He also said the party will support whatever decision made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to end the political turmoil in Sabah.
