RoS to meet Umno next week on no-contest motion

Director General of RoS Nawardi Saad said his agency had not received the full report on the 2022 Umno General Assembly, where a motion was passed to not contest the top two party post during party elections that must be held before May 19.

(NST) – The Registrar of Societies (RoS) will meet Umno representatives next week over the party’s general assembly resolution that the party’s president and deputy president post remain uncontested.

Director General of RoS Nawardi Saad said his agency had not received the full report on the 2022 Umno General Assembly, where a motion was passed to not contest the top two party post during party elections that must be held before May 19.

He did not reveal the time and date of the meeting.

“As of today, RoS has yet to receive a full report (assembly), but next week RoS will hold a meeting with Umno,” he told NSTP today.

Nawardi said RoS was investigating a complaint lodged by Kuala Nerus Division Umno member Muhammad Aizat Fikri Mohd Nasir and Negri Sembilan Umno member Muhammad Fiqri Firdaus Muhammad Rom over the resolution.

They claimed that the resolution was illegal and contrary to the Umno constitution as well as the division and branch conference rules.

“RoS will take note of the matter (complaint), we are investigating,” he said.

Last Saturday, Umno Secretary General, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the party would meet RoS to explain the 2022 general assembly process and the voting.
