PN wave will continue, Muhyiddin says ahead of state elections

The PN chairman warns of a public backlash against the government.

(MalaysiaNow) – Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin today warned of a public backlash against what he described as the government’s “witch-hunt” against the previous administration.

He said the government was working to smear his image as well as that of PN due to the elections to be held in six states this year.

“They call us thieves and pirates so that the people will not support us, but I believe that the PN wave we have already witnessed will continue flooding the country.

“There will be a backlash. This is the sentiment of the people who see the government’s antics as malicious,” he said when debating the motion of thanks to the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat.

Muhyiddin also described the claims by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim that he had misappropriated funds from the country’s economic stimulus packages during his time in Putrajaya as slander.

“They are digging for the wrongdoings of the previous government, throwing around false accusations that I supposedly embezzled RM600 billion,” he said.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission previously confirmed receiving details of the stimulus packages implemented in 2020 and 2021.

It said the focus of its investigation was on RM92.5 billion of the RM600 billion value claimed by Anwar.
