Jana Wibawa scandal timeline

November 2020: The Jana Wibawa programme was introduced by the government during Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s tenure as the Prime Minister. The programme acted as a Covid-19 stimulus initiative to help Bumiputera contractors.

December 2022: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Finance Ministry which he also helms discovered a breach of procedure in the handling of RM600 billion public funds during Muhyiddin’s tenure as prime minister.

February 1, 2023: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that Bersatu’s accounts had been frozen to enable the MACC to investigate funds believed to have been obtained from illegal proceeds.

February 21, 2023: Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan claimed trial for accepting close to RM7 million in bribes in relation to the Jana Wibawa programme to help Bumiputera contractors.

He was also charged with soliciting RM232 million worth of bribes in relation to the programme.

Separately, businessman Adam Radlan also claimed trial to soliciting and accepting a bribe of RM500,000 in relation to the programme.

He was accused to have solicited a bribe from the managing director of MIE Infrastructure and Energy Sdn Bhd, Mat Jusoh Mamat. He was also accused of accepting a RM500,000 bribe from Mat Jusoh for the company to obtain a road construction project worth RM47.8 million.

Both Wan Saiful and Adam Radlan pleaded not guilty.

February 22, 2023: Adam Radlan was charged again on two counts of accepting bribes over RM4 million in relation to the Jana Wibawa programme.

He was accused of receiving RM2 million from one Lian Tan Chuan as an incentive to help Nepturis Sdn. Bhd. obtain the North Klang District Headquarters Project from the government worth RM141 million between April 4, last year and Jan 5 this year.

He was also accused of receiving a RM2.1 million bribe from the managing director of MIE Infrastructure and Energy Sdn Bhd, Mat Jusoh Mamat.

Separately, a furniture company director Datuk Teo Wee Cheng received nine charges of soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM12.87 million in connection with the Jana Wibawa project. He pleaded not guilty

February 28, 2023: Adam Radlan was charged yet again. He was accused of asking for an RM2 million bribe from Lian Tan Chuan as a reward to help Nepturis Sdn Bhd to get a contract for the Klang Utara District Police Headquarters project that is worth RM141 million.

March 9, 2023: Muhyiddin is called by MACC to give his statement over the Jana Wibawa scandal.
