BN expected to contest 14 seats in Selangor polls

Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam says the party intends to contest one seat in each parliamentary constituency in the state.

(FMT) – Barisan Nasional will reportedly contest in 14 seats in the coming Selangor state elections through Umno, which intends to contest in at least one seat in several parliamentary constituencies in the state.

Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying that the party would contest state assembly seats in parliamentary constituencies that were not won by its ally, Pakatan Harapan (PH), at the general election last November.

PH won 16 of the 22 parliamentary seats in Selangor, with Perikatan Nasional winning the remaining six.

Each parliamentary constituency contains two or three state assembly seats. There are 56 seats in the Selangor state assembly.

Lokman urged BN and PH supporters to back the candidates nominated by the two coalitions in order to ensure an election victory for the unity government at the state level.

“If all BN supporters back the candidates from BN and PH, we have a chance (of winning) because we (BN) still have influence in Malay-majority areas while PH enjoys 98% support of non-Malay voters,” he said

The combined votes could ensure victory at the polls, he added.

Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are due to hold elections to their legislative assemblies within the next two months.
