Let’s agree not to touch on 3Rs, Kit Siang tells all parties
Lim Guan Eng, Abdul Hadi Awang and Sanusi Nor are being investigated by police over remarks that allegedly touched on race, religion and royalty.
(FMT) – DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has urged all political parties and coalitions to jointly agree not to touch on issues involving race, religion and royalty (3R) during campaigning for the Aug 12 state elections.
The former Iskandar Puteri MP called for the elections in six states to be “clean and honest”, staying clear of falsehoods and hate speech.
“I propose that all contesting parties and candidates in the state polls enter into an agreement not to exploit 3R issues and to set up a mechanism to expose (such elements) in the election campaign.
“The mechanism should allow any political party, candidate or person to lodge a complaint about (such elements) during the election campaign and for the complaint to be investigated,” he said in a statement today.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain has warned that those who play up issues touching on the 3Rs when campaigning for the state elections will be investigated.
Bukit Aman has launched investigations against DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and caretaker Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor over remarks that allegedly touched on the 3Rs.
According to the federal police, Guan Eng allegedly claimed that Perikatan Nasional will “destroy temples and deny religious rights in Penang”, while Sanusi allegedly insulted the sultan of Selangor.
Hadi allegedly claimed DAP is continuing the plan started by the British colonisers to destroy Malay and Bumiputera supremacy with the support of Malays who have forgotten their roots.
