Hero’s welcome for Sanusi upon arrival in Kedah

(NST) – More than one thousand Perikatan Nasional supporters gathered at the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport here to give Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor a hero’s welcome upon his arrival from Kuala Lumpur.

The crowd began converging at the airport since 3pm to receive the caretaker menteri besar, who claimed trial to two counts of sedition in Selayang Sessions Court earlier today.

The supporters were heard shouting “takbir” and “Hidup Sanusi” when the Perikatan Nasional election director, accompanied by his officers, walked out of the arrival hall about 4.30pm.

Sanusi was seen smiling and waving to the crowd as he walked to his car.

Earlier today, Sanusi claimed trial at the Selayang Sessions Court to two counts of uttering seditious remarks that could incite disloyalty towards the Malay rulers.

He is alleged to have uttered seditious and insulting remarks in relation to Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

He also pleaded not guilty to another charge of committing the same offence when he allegedly uttered seditious remarks questioning Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement on the king’s decree pertaining to the establishment of the unity government.

The charges under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act carry a maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment or RM5,000 fine or both upon conviction.
