Video of Sultan Nazrin endorsing PAS manipulated, says Perak palace
The Perak palace has denounced a video clip that suggested that Sultan Nazrin Shah was endorsing PAS.
(FMT) – In a statement, palace spokesman Zahidi Zainuddin said the video, which included an excerpt from a 2013 speech by the then regent of Perak, was edited and taken out of context.
Zahidi said that in the 90-minute speech, Sultan Nazrin presented his analysis of Umno and PAS, the two dominant Malay parties at the time.
“His Highness did not only express positive words about PAS (in the 2013 speech) but provided a similar analysis of Umno.
Zahidi said the speech provided a balanced assessment of PAS and Umno, and warned both parties against dividing the nation.
He also said that Sultan Nazrin did not support any political party and does not take sides in politics.
“The act of spreading the video is highly unethical and disrespectful to the ruling monarch and has tarnished the good name of the throne,” said Zahidi, adding that people should stop spreading the clip.
He said a police report was lodged on the matter on July 29.
