RPK: If anyone should embezzle RM7b in Goldman Sachs’ 1MDB settlement bond, it’s Tengku Zafrul’s fault
(Focus Malaysia) – FUGITIVE blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK) has held former finance minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz responsible for the missing US$7 bil settlement between Goldman Sachs and the Malaysian government.
The Perikatan Nasional (PN)-slant mercenary blogger claimed that lawyer Rosli Dahlan who was the former counsel of PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and sovereign wealth fund 1MDB wrote to the 1MDB task force and Finance Ministry yesterday (Oct 17) to clarify that the individual who headed the task force then was Tengku Zafrul in his capacity as finance minister.
“Hence, he was in charge of negotiation that took place; moreover, payment (of recovered money) to the Malaysian government is made through the Finance Ministry and not through the lawyers, and the money was handled 100% by the finance minister,” RPK pointed out in his latest video clip lasting five minutes and 43 seconds.
“Hence, if there is embezzlement or abuses in that the US$7 bil settlement money has been syphoned off, then the responsibility falls squarely on Tengku Zafrul.
“Prior to this, UMNO supreme council member Datuk Lokman Adam had accused Rosli of embezzling the US$7 bil of 1MDB money but today, it has been exposed that Rosli was only a member of the task force led by the treasury and a few government agencies such as the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).”
According to RPK, even though the Finance Ministry-led task force was instrumental in negotiating to recover more than RM20 bil in embezzled 1MDB money, all the recovered monies had never been paid to the lawyer but channelled directly to the treasury.
“Only the finance minister knows how much has been received but thus far, one allegation after another has been levelled at Muhyiddin’s lawyers such as Rosli yet Tengku Zafrul who was the finance minister (during Muhyiddin’s administration) has been tight-lipped on the matter,” observed RPK who is believed to be airing his views from Manchester, UK.
“He has never once revealed that it was him who was in charge of handling the recovered monies or headed negotiations to determine the quantum that needed to be paid.
“Therefore, it has become pretty obvious that this is an attempt to tarnish the image of Muhyiddin by holding the Bersatu president responsible for the theft of the settlement money.”
On the same token, RPK said the lies and slander of the perpetrators against Muhyiddin have been exposed with the AGC having written a letter yesterday (Oct 17) to explain the matter even though both the treasury or Tengku Zafrul have kept silent or failed to set the record straight despite knowing the truth.
“If it is indeed true that the RM7 bil in settlement money has gone missing, then it should be the finance minister and nobody else who should be held responsible for such theft,” added RPK.
