Dump DAP first, PAS leader tells Amanah
The Islamic party’s spiritual leader Hashim Jasin says Amanah isn’t the only one who can set conditions.
(FMT) – Amanah should dump DAP if they are serious about collaborating with PAS, says the Islamic party’s spiritual leader Hashim Jasin.
“Thanks for opening the door to an alliance, but if they can stipulate conditions, so can we,” he said, referring to the Pakatan Harapan component.
Hashim was responding to comments by Amanah vice-president Adly Zahari at the party convention yesterday that his party did not see PAS as an enemy.
He also said Amanah would not object if PAS wanted to be part of the unity government but the latter would need to stop “manipulating” 3R (race, religion and royalty) related issues for political purposes.
Hashim said that as long as Amanah allied itself with DAP, it was inappropriate to form any alliance with Amanah.
Meanwhile, Wanita PAS chief Nuridah Salleh said the party would have no issue with joining forces with Amanah if it benefited “race, religion and the country”.
“As long as it does not go against our principles, we have no problem about getting back together (with Amanah).”
She also rubbished claims that PAS was exploiting Islam, insisting that the religion guided them.
“They can say what they want, but for us, we cannot extricate ourselves from a religious life.”
Amanah is a splinter party that broke away from PAS in 2015 after the latter decided to quit the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.
Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, who was sidelined in PAS’s leadership election that year, led other leaders and members out of the Islamic party.
