‘Zero tolerance for those playing up 3R’ – King
There will be zero tolerance for those playing up 3R (race, religion, and royalty) issues, decreed His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
(NST) – His Majesty said after the 60 years since Malaysia was formed, the relationship between races was still “imperfect”.
“There are still generations who fail to master the national language or appreciate the diverse cultures of other races.
“I urge the government to formulate a policy aimed at ensuring unity that is stronger and more harmonious among the people.
“There is a Malay proverb that says, ‘melentur buluh biar dari rebungnya’ which means that early influences have a lasting impact. Likewise, If we want a future generation that is united and one that understands each other, it must be shaped from young.
“I also call on all levels of society to strengthen national unity and not to incite emotions by harping on the 3R.”
He said this in his royal address at the First Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament, today.
The King added that the Federal Constitution recognised Islam as the religion of the Federation, and assured that it would continue to be preserved.
He said however, other religions could be practised in peace and harmony, but must not be used to proselytise Muslims.
“Therefore, there should not be attempts by any party to manipulate and politicise this basic foundation of the Constitution,” he decreed.
