Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblyman dies
Three-term assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong died after a battle with cancer.
(FMT) – Three-term Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong died today.
Three DAP leaders confirmed Lee’s death when contacted by FMT.
Sin Chew Daily reported that Lee, 58, died at 10am after a battle with cancer.
Lee beat Gerakan’s Teoh Kien Hong by a 4,119-vote majority at last year’s Selangor state elections.
She first won her seat in 2013 after defeating MCA’s Ooi Hui Wen with a 1,702-vote majority, and defended it in 2018 with a 7,134-vote majority over MCA’s Wong Koon Mun.
In a statement, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari extended his condolences to Lee’s family and DAP on behalf of the state government.
Calling her an experienced leader, Amirudin said Lee’s death was a significant loss to Selangor and Kuala Kubu Baharu residents.
According to Selangor Journal, Lee announced in 2020 that she had been diagnosed with stage one ovarian cancer, but was in remission after undergoing treatment.
She underwent surgery in early 2023 before going on to defend the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat in the August state elections.
She was later reported to be in critical condition, taking medical leave from the state assembly sitting in November as well as the recently concluded sitting.
