Dr M says MACC accusing him of wrongdoing
Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad claims the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is accusing him of wrongdoing.
(NST) – In a statement, Mahathir said MACC sent his son Mirzan a notice which contained a sentence saying “an offence under Section 23 of the Act related to report IPJ/RPTNO/0477/2023 has been committed by Mahathir Mohamad”.
Mahathir said his MyKad number was also published in the notice.
“As far as I know, I was never investigated but this MACC notice states that I have committed a crime,” he said.
Mahathir said though he has been accused of owning billions, there has been no proof of this.
Previously, in a Bloomberg report, Mahathir’s sons Tan Sri Mokhzani and Mirzan, claimed their father was the target of a MACC probe.
Mohkzani and Mirzan, who have been asked to declare their assets, said they were ordered to assist in a probe into Mahathir.
They have been asked to declare their assets to the MACC dating back to 1981 when their father became prime minister.
NST has reached out to MACC for comment.
