Labuan MP steadfast in backing Anwar’s govt despite loyalty pledge directive
Suhaili Abdul Rahman says ‘whatever it is’ he will continue to back the current government.
(FMT) – Bersatu’s Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman said he is standing firm behind his decision to back Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration despite a “notice” by the party demanding members to pledge their loyalty to it.
Suhaili also said he had not received the notice from the party, which was sent out today.
“I checked my email and I did not receive anything.
“I called two of my colleagues and they told me they have yet to receive anything,” he told FMT, referring to the other Bersatu MPs who had backed Anwar’s government.
Suhaili declined to identify the other two.
“But I’m not afraid, even of the ‘special instruction’. Whatever it is, I will continue to back the government and Anwar,” he said.
Earlier today, Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said the party had issued notices to all of its elected representatives, requiring them to confirm their loyalty to the party within 14 days.
Hamzah also said there were special instructions in the letters for the seven elected representatives who have declared support for the federal and Selangor governments. He did not disclose these special instructions.
Failure to acknowledge receiving the letter and reply to it within 14 days would see them being stripped of their party membership, Hamzah said.
Apart from Suhaili, the Bersatu MPs who backed Anwar were Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang).
Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari backed Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari’s government in March.
