Selat Klang rep no longer seated in opposition bloc
Abdul Rashid Asari, who declared support for the Selangor menteri besar this year, has been temporarily placed between the government and opposition blocs.
(FMT) – Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari, who declared support for menteri besar Amirudin Shari earlier this year, is no longer seated in the opposition bloc at the Selangor state assembly.
Selangor speaker Lau Weng San said that Rashid had been temporarily placed between the opposition and government blocs as he is currently not a member of any party.
“This (seating arrangement) also takes into account his seniority as a second-term assemblyman and his previous experience as a state executive councillor,” Lau was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Lau decided on the matter after state opposition leader Azmin Ali requested clarification on Rashid’s seating arrangement. Azmin said this was necessary to “ensure harmony and smooth proceedings” in the assembly.
On June 21, Azmin, who is also the Selangor Perikatan Nasional chief, notified Lau that Rashid had ceased to be a member of Bersatu.
Azmin said this meant that Rashid had ceased to be a member of the Selangor state assembly, and that his seat should be vacated.
