Voter turnout at 44.6% as of 2pm in Sungai Bakap by-election
Polling centres in eight districts are due to close at 6pm.
(FMT) – The number of voters who have cast their ballots in the Sungai Bakap by-election hit 44.6% as of 2pm, the Election Commission reported.
The nine polling centres in eight districts – Padang Lalang, Puteri Gunong, Tasek Junjong, Sungai Duri, Sungai Bakap, Ladang Sempah, Sungai Kechil and Kampung Besar – are scheduled to close at 6pm.
The total turnout in the constituency in last year’s state election was 76.88%.
Overall, 39,279 people are eligible to vote, including 57 police officers. There was no early polling, with the EC receiving 128 postal ballots.
The Sungai Bakap state by-election is a straight fight between Pakatan Harapan candidate Joohari Ariffin and Perikatan Nasional candidate Abidin Ismail. It is being held following the death of PN incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24.
