Netizens amazed that PAS-ruled Kedah allows “semi-nude” men’s body building event to take place
The problem with holier-than-thou posturing is that very often, someone, somewhere will find something to show that it is just a charade. PAS has already been targeted several times after getting on a high horse on various issues.
(Focus Malaysia) – FRESH from the “controversy” stirred by a durian vendor employing topless hunks to man the stalls (in Kajang and Melaka), another storm of a teacup is brewing.
This time it involves a men’s body building event in PAS-ruled Kedah.
In the original durian stall episode, the sight of a couple of shirtless young dudes flexing their muscles seemed to have so enraged a certain demographic that it required the Health Ministry to defuse the situation by warning the durian vendor that this was unhygienic.
Many had taken to social media to complain about this stunt as reflective of Pakatan Harapan (PH)-run states where such aurat-revealing is par for the course.
Coupled with the rave party on KTM trains, many are using such incidences as proof of the terrible moral decay under the Madani administration.
Well, the shoe is now on the other foot as this post on X (formerly Twitter) by political observer and author Amran Fans (@_AmranFans) highlights.
The post highlights the inherent hypocrisy of PAS as the participants at this sporting event was wearing even less than the durian sellers.
Isn’t this going against PAS edicts on such matters, wondered some netizens.
Detractors, missing the point somewhat, brought up the “events” in the Klang Valley which they deemed to be offensive yet was not highlighted by the poster.
One netizen asked why such events that are organised by sporting associations being used to hammer the state government.
The answer to the above query is that this is the unfortunate consequence when sporting activities are used for political mileage such as the Terengganu government’s decision to exclude women’s gymnastics from its SUKMA (Sukan Malaysia) contingent.

Both social and mass media took great pleasure in gleefully highlighting its inconsistencies in policies where its cakap tak serupa bikin (literally “say one thing, do another”) persona was there for all to see.
However, it must be remembered that by politicising such issues, it is the rakyat who bear the brunt. For a clear example, recall that the organisers of the Buddhist festival in Bachok, Kelantan who were retrospectively fined for featuring inappropriately attired female performers.
This was after PAS and its followers vehemently protested about the staging of Coldplay’s concert at the national stadium earlier this year, saying the performers were propagating LGBTQ+ agenda.
In the Bachok incident, the Thai Buddhist community were made scapegoats. Despite peacefully celebrating the Loy Krathong festival undisturbed for years, future instalments of this annual event are now under scrutiny.
